What could you tell about old Slava watches?

People often find old Slava watches and want to learn more about them as part of the country's history and the lives of loved ones who wore these watches. Most often, they are interested in the year of production, less often - technical characteristics. And if it is not a problem to figure out the second, then the first is very difficult.

The Second Moscow Watch Factory "Slava" produced a huge number of watch models. The article number was indicated only in the passport and on the tag. The only identifier on the watch itself was the production number on the cover, which was repeated with a certain cyclicality with one purpose - to determine the shift in case of defective production. Unfortunately, these archives have been lost.

Ways to determine the year of production:

  • find the warranty card for the watch;
  • ask the craftsmen who specialize in domestic watches;
  • ask on thematic forums;
  • look at the factory catalogs for:

1983 год

1993 год

2003 год

The earliest dates give the years of the beginning of the production of the mechanisms: 2409 and 2414 - 1966, 2428 - 1970, 2416 - 1989.

Determining the technical characteristics does not present any particular problems, since their main element - the mechanism - is quite easily determined externally. They are all approximately the same size.

Quartz models were also produced, but in small quantities and mainly after 1990.

These mechanisms are familiar to watchmakers and specialists, they are repairable, reliable and can continue to please the owner.

The cases of most models before 2000 used brass, covered with chrome or gold plated.

Popular question: how much can the Slava watch I got cost?

Answer: as much as you can sell it for. If they have no historical value, then the price will most likely be significantly less than the price of similar new watches. Most likely, after long-term storage, the watch needs cleaning and lubrication, or even repair.
